2nd Prize for St. Trinitatis Church, Leipzig

Allmann Sattler Wappner were awarded the 2nd prize for their design in the competition for the new Catholic Provost Parish Chuch, St. Trinitatis, in Leipzig.

It was the wish of the parish community that the church should be a clerical and spiritual centre in the heart of Leipzig where people could simply walk in unannounced. They also wanted it to have a strengthened role in the cultural discourse of the city. The design envisions the building as a sculptural landmark within the townscape.

The circular sanctuary is the centre of the building. It functions as a spatial intersection point where all the adjoining church and community rooms meet it in an axis-symmetrical way. A roof garden adopts the geometrical shape of the circle and surrounds the centrally placed sanctuary and its skylight.
