The project creates an open campus with various types of schools and their sports facilities to create an easily accessible area within this urban district. The objective of the design is to establish an open and easy-to-navigate structural order, which meets the key demands of a school campus: the best possible layout for students, maximum flexibility for current and future uses as well as optimal integration with the open spaces, thereby achieving a diverse and inspiring learning environment.
The main school road provides access to the academic cluster with the two secondary schools and dedicated STEM building as well as the gymnasium and the indoor swimming pool. In order to give users access to all of the spaces, the campus has a terraced layout with large-scale ramps connecting the various levels. The jumping-off point is the forecourt, which gives the public access to the lower terraces and provides an interface between urban and academic life. The roof terraces give students green spaces for social interaction overlooking the Bavarian alps.
By deliberately using certain design features across the campus, the complex avoids the strict architectural schematism often found in school clusters and provides instead a character-defining atmosphere and originality. An example of this is the modular construction of the campus, which clearly distinguishes between the building shell or underlying structure and the finishings, making both easily visible. The modules themselves vary in particular in terms of the illumination provided by a large central atrium. The entrance modules are canopied, while, by contrast, the courtyards that extend out at an angle are open-air and landscaped. The spacious, contemporary and positive design of the landscaping connects the campus and the sports facilities with the green space of the surrounding park.
