The project encompasses the restoration, roof extension and interior redesign of two office buildings within a historic urban setting in Munich.
A certain tension is inevitable in a design that integrates two modern buildings from the 1950s and 1970s into a historic ensemble with listed Jugendstil buildings next door and the renowned Prinzregenten Theater across the street. The restoration efforts and roof extension are designed to accommodate future-oriented use concepts. The project reshapes the exterior of the entire complex and the interior design using contemporary means. A uniform color palette on both buildings strengthens their visual impact on the square. The façade design plays with concepts like solidity and transparency, layering and reflection.
The new steel and glass roof mount, which brings both buildings to the same height, establishes a link between the two while also asserting its identity as a design element. The large wraparound roof terrace and the green space in the courtyard offer high-quality space for social interaction.
